Acupuncture is mainly used to treat pain conditions in muscles and joints as well as tension headaches and migraines. Can also be used against general pain and nausea.

 

This is how acupuncture works

 

It is done by inserting thin needles into the muscles. Here, the nerves are stimulated. The effect of this is a local increase in blood flow and secretion of pain-relieving hormones.

 

During the treatment, the hormone endorphin is released. Known as the body's own morphine. It can be pain-relieving and sedative, but does not have the negative effects that morphine can have.
